Department of “Radio Engineering” was founded on 1967 at the “Electrical Engineering Faculty” of the VMEI – Varna. The first head of the Department was Assoc.Prof. Georgi H. Enchev Ph.D. (Eng.) (1967 – 1969). After this dates the Department was consequently managed by Prof. Doncho S. Donchev Ph.D. (Eng.) (1969 – 1972); Academician Dimitar N. Mishev Ph.D. (Eng.) (1972 – 1974); Prof. Hristo D. Hristov Ph.D. (Eng.) (1974 – 1992) and Assoc.Prof. Georgi S. Kirov Ph.D. (Eng.) (since 1992).         


Now the Department is one of the departments of “The Faculty of Electronics” in “The Technical University – Varna” and ensures the specialization of the module “Radio and Television Engineering” at the specialty “Communication Engineering and Technologies” for B.Sc. and for the modules “Radio Communication Engineering”; Video and Audio Engineering” and “Radionavigation, Radar and Ultrasonic Engineering”  for M.Sc.         


The lecturers of the Department teaches some subjects at the Faculty and at the University for other specialties. 
There are 13 high-educated lecturers (9 Assoc. Prof.) and 2 technical and administrative staff at the Department (an engineer and a programmer). Most of the lecturers have been specialized at various foreign Universities and Research institutions and are authors in more than 70 textbooks, 600 articles and have been published over 100 reports in Bulgaria and abroad and many certificates of invention. Over more than 140 research projects and 7 international TEMPUS programs have been worked up. Members of International Scientific Institutions and Academies are three of the lecturers. Some of the lecturers are included at the “Marquis Who’s Who in the World”, “Marquis Who’s Who in Science and Engineering”.
