History and Development of Industrial Design Major

The major of Industrial Design is the successor of “Engineering Design” and “Production Design” specialties. It was established in 1995 and in 1997 students officially began to be enrolled in the major of Engineering Design. In a few years, the young Industrial Design major evolved into one of the most preferred specialties by the future students at the Technical University of Varna. The department, specializing in the major of Industrial Design, is the department of Industrial Design, currently led by Assoc. Prof. Tsena Murzova, PhD, elected as a Head in December 2023.

Professional Realization

Industrial Design graduates, holding a Bachelor or Master’s degree, receive training for highly qualified design, engineering, creative, executive and managerial activities in the following areas:

  • Design of mechanical, electrical and electronic products for industry, household and industrial products.
  • Design of home appliances.
  • Graphic design and advertising.
  • Interior and exterior design.
  • Artistic design.

In these fields of professional activity, the graduates with a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Industrial Design should apply technical and economic, environmentally friendly and ergonomic design approaches and methods.

University Facilities

The established material and technical facilities are maintained and constantly improved to ensure the best possible conditions for full-fledged education and research activities, in accordance with the specifics of the specialty of Industrial Design. The department of Industrial Design has the necessary lecture halls and laboratories to ensure the normal conduct of the educational process. Both the university’s general material and technical facilities and that of the individual departments, including the specializing department of Industrial Design, are utilized. The department has seven laboratories, three art studios and three computer classes where the specialized training for students pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Design takes place.
